Repeating the command multiple times helps narrow down the drops. To troubleshoot dropped packets show counter global filter severity drop can be used. If there is a consensus that it's hardware though, I won't trust it and I'll be ordering a replacement.Counters are a very useful set of indicators for the processes, packet flows and sessions on the PA firewall and can be used to troubleshoot various scenarios. If I had to guess there is some sort of error in the flash that has corrupted the "factory default" command set and it barfs every time you ask it to load defaults.Īs a last ditch effort, I had saved the old config before I wiped it, so I was able to reload the config and get it back online while I diagnose WTF is going on.

Pulling my hair out here and can't figure out what I am missing. I tried reloading older firmwares (including the one that was on it before the upgrade), as well as getting into the PROM and trying to erase the flash. Write Erase doesn't work, and the other usual suspects are also missing in action. I tried to find a way to factory default from the CLI but unless I missed something in the 1500 page useless CLI manual, there isn't a way.

Granted I haven't watched one of these default via CLI in forever, but it basically gets past the first 10-15 lines (just after the Auto Voice VLAN MAC address masks) and then nothing. I was able to assign an IP to VLAN 1, and throw a switchport on that vlan to connect to the WebUI again, but every factory default runs into the same issue.

I then spent the next hour trying to console into the unit, only to finally remember that unlike every other device out there that uses a null-modem cable, these need a DTE-DCE cable (thanks assholes).Īfter getting the console up I could get into the switch but it was missing its factory default configuration. NOTHING! With the exception of a blinking "system" LED. I used the WebUI to reboot to factory defaults and then. Long story short, I upgraded to the latest firmware ( 1.4.9.04) on the units and pulled the 52 port from the remote rack, blew all of the dust out of it (in the warehouse), and the brought it into the office to reconfigure.

Obligatory acknowledgement that the SMB line is shit.Īnyways, I was doing some reconfiguration at the office today during the weekend down time and I was planning on relocating (swapping) two switches, both SG300 units (a 20 and 52 port) because the number of ports required in the two locations necessitated the change.
